I hope the holidays treated you all well and you found time to relax and enjoy family and friends. School resumed on Wednesday this week. It was really nice for our teachers and students to return to a partial week after the break. Obviously it is too cold to be outside right now, so our students have not had an opportunity to go outside for recess. January and February include that long slow march to spring, where we experience stretches of bitter Iowa cold. The good news is that this time of year is a prime time for learning and when we see some of the biggest gains in student learning.
We will finish first semester next Thursday and teachers will have Friday, January 14th to complete grade reports.
Nevertheless it has been relatively quiet here in the district as students and teacher have gotten back into the routine of school. A lot of last minute instruction and preparation for finals is occurring in the high school.
If your are brave enough to come out, I might suggest a trip down to school this evening for a basketball double header. JV action gets underway at 4:30 and the varsity squads will begin with the girls at 6:15 tonight. We take on Wapsie Valley so it should be a lot of fun.
All for now, have a great weekend and stay warm!
Dr. Anthony D. Voss, Superintendent
