Friday Board Bulletin 6/16/19

Board Members:

Tomorrow and Friday I’ll be in Des Moines for the BoEE June retreat, so that is the reason for this early bulletin. When I return late on Friday afternoon, the family and I will be heading out on a weekend camping trip.

Work on the construction project hit a minor snag on Tuesday. When demolition and excavation were almost to grade, they ended up discovering some pipes that appear to be a sanitary sewer line, high-pressure gas, and the main electrical line. At our construction meeting progress report held today, a solution was proposed that seems to be a good workaround. At this point, it appears the solution will not slow down progress or require any major change order. I am incredibly thankful for that! As an aside I have also requested a change order quote to replace the overhead heating units in three classrooms (art, music, and Little Pirates). Right now I am just looking for prices and won’t move forward with the change order without first consulting you.

Administrators completed their June BEDS reporting requirements and we were able to certify that report along with our final SRI submission of the year early this week. Building principals are close to wrapping up for the year and will head out on vacation at the end of the month. I am highly confident the majority of our hiring will be completed by the end of the month with the exception of the FCS position. I also have high confidence our science position will be filled.

That is about all for now. I look forward to seeing you all on Monday night for the board meeting. I’ll remind everyone now that there will not be a Friday bulletin for the next two weeks since I will be on vacation. As always, if you have something, please, by all means, let me know. While on vacation, I plan on checking email daily but it will be in the evening and responses will be delayed. If you need to reach me, the best way will be by phone.

The picture this week is from my back patio looking North to the baseball field. I really liked it because it caught the sunset in the background under the lights and the color in the sky was really neat! It is also a great reminder that baseball and softball season is in full swing right now. As a reminder, our facilities make for a great environment in which to enjoy a ball game on a warm summer night!

Again, have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you Monday night!
