Friday Board Bulletin 8/25/17

Board Members:

Even though we just had a meeting on Monday evening, it seems like a very long time ago! In the intervening days that we met, school has started. It hardly seems possible! The final days prior to school beginning were a flurry of activity while we finished up our construction. Fact is, the final construction worker left the building at 8:00 on Wednesday morning; just minutes before day started! We have had a lot of positive comments on the work that we have done and the Board is to be commended for your vision! We are all looking forward to phase two!

I have spent the last couple of days visiting classrooms and trying to make sure all of our new teachers are getting off to a good start. The beginning of the school year is such an exciting time for everyone! I have really been impressed with the work all our employees have undertaken in an effort to make sure everything was ready to go to start the year. Obviously our custodians have a large hand in this preparation, but our classroom teachers have done a phenomenal job of preparing their classrooms! If you get a chance to check out my Twitter feed you should be able to see some of the photos of their work.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of accepting a $2,000 check from Dennis Rottinghaus on behalf of the ECI Coop to be used for our high school robotics club. That position is open right now, but I do hope to have someone identified for that role very soon.

Our first day enrollment for the 2017-2018 school year has shown some positive gains, with that number being up 21 students. It is important for you to know that enrollment will continue to fluctuate in the coming weeks and will not become official until October 1st when we lock it in. Following that date, we will take the next two weeks to verify before certifying our numbers to the state. Nevertheless, this is very positive news for the school. We’ll certainly be watching this closely and be interested to see what the final numbers are in October!

The photo I am sharing with you today is from Mrs. Christopher’s classroom on the second floor. Yesterday she was asking students to form hypotheses about how a water bottle would land if ti were tossed into the air.
I also wanted to highlight one of my blog articles this week, particularly the article that introduces the school board candidates to our community. This introduction is a good way for you to both learn a little bit about those who will be joining you on the board, or in some cases succeeding you in a few more weeks.
If you are looking for something to do tonight, week one of the high school football season opens up right here at Hudson where we will take on the Mustangs of East Marshall. Have a great weekend!
