The summer is really starting to wind down and the pace of work has begun to pick up in earnest. Principals returned to the district on Tuesday and we spent Wednesday and Thursday at the SAI convention in SAI convention in Des Moines. I stayed an extra day for the BoEE meeting on Friday.
It appears as if we will be able to start cleaning the South end of the elementary renovation project area on Monday. A few punch items remain, and part of the final window for one of the kindergarten rooms isn’t here yet, but we should be able to start our work this week. It is our intention to have teachers be able to begin moving in on 8/14, so next week will be a very busy week with the cleaning of this area.
We also have a new custodian hired this week that we anticipate will be starting on Tuesday. Hopefully the third time is the charm! Speaking of hiring, Mr. Dieken has screened candidates for the PE position and anticipates interviewing on Monday. Just today he met with a promising candidate for the FCS position with his counterpart in North Tama. While this candidate currently does not have the FCS endorsement, she has indicated a willingness to obtain it. That will enable us to gain an emergency decision license from the BoEE. There are a few details to be worked out yet, so this is far from resolved at this point.
Fall practices began this week as well, another sign that the school year is quickly approaching! We were able to get the annual maintenance completed on the gym floors, so for that, I was very pleased!
Have a great weekend!
