Public Hearing on Calendar Set for February 20

The Board of Directors has set February 20th, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. for a public hearing where they will discuss the 2017-2018 academic calendar. In a recent poll of faculty and staff, Option C was the preferred option by 59.3% of respondents. At a recent SIAC meeting, the committee affirmed this option.

Option ‘C’ of the school calendar essentially has the same start and end dates as this year, but moves everything else internally up one week in order to complete the first semester by winter break. January 3rd, 2018 is not a day of instruction, but rather a teacher clerical day where they close out the academic records on the first term. This calendar also moves spring conferences to the week before spring break, with Friday, March 3 as a Teacher Comp Day. Essentially this has the effect of starting spring break one day early.

As has been past practice, spring break aligns with the University of Northern Iowa and graduation weekend is the weekend before Memorial Day.
