The annual Field Day event, which was originally scheduled for May 11th, has been moved to Monday, May 14th, due to potential weather.
On Monday, starting at 8:40 a.m. and running to 10:50 a.m., 4th through 6th graders will participate in their outside events, which consist of running, long jump, eraser shuffle, shoe kick, football throw, softball throw, frisbee, cone toss, bocce ball, sponge run, and the obstacle course.
Kindergarten through 3rd graders will start their outside events at 12:40 p.m. and continue through 2:45 p.m. Their events will consist of running, the pe equipment relay, tug-of-war, parachute, playground, sidewalk chalk, sponge relay, frisbee throw, and the obstacle course.
Field Day was originally started by former PE teacher Dennis Strempke, who simply wanted kids to get outside and play. Today, K-8 PE teacher Travis Kiewiet continues the tradition. Kiewiet, who spends 2-3 weeks planning, thinks the time spent is well worth it.
Said Kiewiet , “I like watching the kids get excited about doing something active.”
